School Defibrillator – May 2022

Defibrillator Support for Henry Chadwick Primary School

Kevin Pratt, one of the governors at Henry Chadwick, has kindly donated a defibrillator and cabinet, valued at over £1,000, to Henry Chadwick Primary School. This donation was made through the company he owns, Step-by-Step Financial Planners Limited and reflects their energy in supporting and engaging with community projects as part of their Chartered Financial Planners status awarded by the Chartered Insurance Institute.

The data around cardiac arrests illustrates that each year 270 children die from sudden cardiac arrest suffered on school premises. Consequently, this gesture will provide extra safety and peace of mind to the school community and appropriate training is being provided to enable the defibrillator to be deployed in an emergency situation.

Kevin Pratt said: “One aspect of our Chartered Status is the impact of what is referred to as Corporate Social Responsibility. In this respect, one of my colleagues has experience of the CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) charity, which, since its formation in 1995, has been working to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). Consequently, in making this donation, I would like to work with the school and Trust to generate public awareness of this significant medical issue and the provision of equipment to help reduce the impact of sudden cardiac arrest.”

Matt Allman, CEO of The Greywood Multi-Schools Trust, added: “Henry Chadwick is very much at the heart of its community and has a reputation for the exceptional care and support they give to their children. The donation of this defibrillator by Kevin is hugely generous and all of us who have, or have had, children go through the school will be grateful that the already exceptional provision will be added to with what could prove a life-saving donation.”
